Seo Inguk is a singer and actor. Born in 1987 to a family of modest means, he dreamed of becoming a singer ever since he saw a performance by Kim Jungmin at the age of 10. He made his debut in 2009 after winning the talent show <Superstar K>. When he released his first title, <Calling>, a few weeks later, it immediately shot to first place on the charts. His first experience in acting came about when he had to perform in the music video for his single <I Love U>, released in 2010. He followed this up with his participation as one of the leads in the 2012 tour of the musical <Gwanghwamun Love Song>, before he was offered a role in the melodrama TV series <Love Rain>. Later that year, he lander his breakthrough role in this nostalgia-infused drama series <Reply 1997>, one of the most successful shows on cable TV, playing the male lead. <All For You>, the song he recorded with his co-star Junh Eunji from the girl band Apink topped the charts and was later named Best OST at the Mnet Asian Music Awards. Seo enjoyed tremendous success in the early 2010s, notably dominating all the charts in 2013 with his single <With Laughter or With Tears>. After joining the main cast in the horror romcom series <Master’s Sun> (2013), he made his film debut in <No Breathing> (2013), starring as a promising swimming athlete who quit after his father’s passing during a swimming competition. He played another athlete in the drama series <High School King of Savvy>, this time as a ice hockey prodigy who suddenly finds himself having to impersonate his own brother and fill in for him as a manager at an IT company. He then appeared in the royal court drama series <The King’s Face> and the police procedural series <Hello Monster>, before he drew praises for his performance in the 2016 crime series <Squad 38>, which allowed him to flex his acting range as he played a pro swindler who takes on multiple identities as part of his schemes. He then reunited with <High School King of Savvy> director Yoo Jewon for the mystery thriller series <The Smile Has Left Your Eyes> (2018) and in 2019 he received top-billing in <Pipeline> (2021), his first film in six years, whose release was delayed until 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2022, he was back on the big screen with <Project Wolf Hunting> (2022).
