Born in 1972, Hwang Inho started off as an in-demand screenwriter for films encompassing a diverse array of genres, such as the horror comedy <To Catch a Virgin Ghost> (2004), the high school comedy <The Legend of 7 Cutter> (2006) and the romantic comedies <Love Phobia> (2006) and <Two Faces of My Girlfriend> (2007). He later performed some script editing on Kang Jegyu’s war epic <My Way> (2011) before penning and directing the horror-romcom <Spellbound>. Skilfully blending codes of these two drastically different genres, the film was a hit with audiences in the winter of 2011. Three years later, he reteamed with his <Spellbound> star Lee Minki to make <Monster>, a more traditional thriller. However, Hwang’s sophomore outing failed to connect with audiences. In 2021, he returned to cinemas with the action film <Decibel>, about a series of terror attacks that use a new kind of sound-powered explosives.
