SHIM Eun-kyoung, born in 1994, started out as a child actor, playing younger versions of the likes of HA Ji-won, LEE Mi-youn and CHOI Kang-hee. After a first appearance in 2003 in the historical TV series <Jewel in the Palace>, she landed her first film role in <Thomas Ahn Joong Keun> (2004). First noticed in 2006 for her role as the young Hwang Jini, a legendary figure in Korean history, in the historical TV series of the same name, SHIM would often be praised for holding her own with the adult actors if not stealing the spotlight. She made another big impression playing a young mysterious girl with a dark past in the horror film <Hansel and Gretel> (2007), before appearing in a similar role in another horror picture, <Possessed> (2009). Noticed by JANG Jin, she joined the ensemble cast of his comedy <The Quiz Show Scandal> (2010), soon followed by the melodrama <Romantic Heaven> (2011). She was suddenly propelled to stardom in 2011 upon taking the lead in the box office sensation <Sunny> (2011), which attracted audiences from all ages thanks to its nostalgic appeal. That time came during the Lunar New Year in 2014 when she led the comedy <Miss Granny> (2013) to a huge box office haul and took home top acting awards at the Baeksang Arts Awards and the Chunsa Film Festival, cementing her status as one of the industry’s biggest young stars in the process.
