KIM Woo-taek headed [Megabox multiplex] and an investment production company, [Showbox], and invested in Tae-guk-gi and The Host. Along the way, he changed the landscape of Koreas movie industry. As a director of the [Megabox Cineplex], he established [Megabox] and built it into a multiplex that split the Korean movie industry with [CJ CGV]. As a CEO of the parent company, [Mediaplex], KIM took the investment production company, [Showbox], under the wing of [Mediaplex], and built it to become the No. 2 investor in the Korean movie industry. The company had a series of hit movies in Marathon, Welcome to Dongmakgol, and while continuing to invest aggressively. The listing [Mediaplex] on Kosdaq in 2006 led a boom of Kosdaq IPOs by movie production companies in Korea. It made a foray into China with [Megabox], and invested in [John Woo]s Red Cilff. He left [Showbox] in April 2008 and is running [Megabox].
