Hollywood Tentpoles Crowd the Charts 

Despite one of the most hotly anticipated Hollywood tentpoles of the year entering the charts, the market slowed 23% week-on-week over the past weekend, with 745,000 tickets sold. Once again, no major new domestic titles were released, keeping the local market share low at 8%.

Hanging on to first place was the Sony-Marvel sequel Venom: Let There Be Carnage, which slowed 56% as it brought in 343,000 viewers (USD 2.95 million) during its second frame. Over 12 days, the film has attracted a robust 1.65 million spectators (USD 14 million).

Warner Bros’ eagerly awaited sci-fi adaptation Dune failed to move the masses in Korea, where it launched in second place with 276,000 sales (USD 2.54 million), with many of those owed to strong performances at IMAX sites. After debuting in first place on Wednesday, the Denis Villeneuve film quickly slowed down and has sold 383,000 tickets (USD 3.47 million) over five days.

No Time to Die continued its march out of theaters as it slowed 65% with 23,000 entries (USD 195,000) recorded over the weekend. The Bond film has welcomed 1.2 million viewers (USD 9.95 million) to date.

Ridley Scott’s latest film The Last Duel has been drawing very strong audience reactions, but these couldn’t offset a modest debut, with only 21,000 spectators (USD 180,000) venturing out for its first weekend. The medieval film has filled 33,000 seats (USD 275,000) since its Wednesday debut.

Closing out the top five was the local thriller On the Line, which was down 51% with 18,000 entries (USD 147,000) recorded over the frame. To date, the film has accrued 1.39 million admissions (USD 11.61 million).

With no major new releases until Marvel’s The Eternals early next month, this coming weekend should see holdovers command the charts, with Venom likely to win a third-weekend crown.
