SHERIFF IN TOWN Holds Strong in Second

Business over the weekend spreads across several titles with new entries sharing the spoils with last week’s top three finishers. Overall, Hollywood maintained its edge with a 61% share of the 2.06 million recorded admissions.

Opening with 525,000 entries (USD 3.99 million), Alien: Covenant grabbed first place and in its first five days has already accumulated 960,000 viewers (USD 7.12 million) and is within inches of overtaking the lifetime total of its predecessor Prometheus, released five years ago.

Down 49% in its sophomore frame was local comedy-thriller The Sheriff In Town which hung onto its number two spot with 425,000 spectators (USD 3.18 million). The Lotte Entertainment title has already sold 2.21 million tickets (USD 15.98 million).

Down 55% and still in third was US animation The Boss Baby with another 348,000 viewers (USD 2.49 million) and 1.92 million admissions (USD 13.25 million) in 12 days.

Down three spots and 63% was last week’s winner Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 which brought in another 325,000 spectators (USD 2.58 million), lifting its total to 2.43 million (USD 18.66 million) entries.

Opening in fifth place was local period mystery-thriller The Tooth and the Nail. The film debuted with 150,000 admissions (USD 1.12 million) and 292,000 moviegoers (USD 2.11 million) over its first six days.

The Cannes-invited thriller The Merciless opens on Wednesday, and will aim for the top spot, while King Arthur: Legend of the Sword also goes on release.
