KIM Go-eun and KIM Joo-hun Lead Short Film UNTACT

Director KIM Jee-woon is partnering with Samsung to make Untact, a new romance film starring KIM Go-eun (Tune in for Love, 2019) and KIM Ju-hun (MEMOIR OF A MURDERER, 2017). The short film is being shot on Samsung’s Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Note 20 devices to demonstrate their 8K resolution capabilities.

Last year, Samsung became the first tech company to launch 8K screens, the latest generation in high resolution technology, which offers four times the numbers of pixels available with the current 4K industry norm, and 16 times more than the standard 1080p high definition.

Samsung announced that it is planning to open two 8K cinemas in Seoul next month, where it will be possible to see KIM’s film on QLED 8K screens. The theaters will operate on a limited reservation system, while the film will also be made available through online networks such as YouTube.

Director KIM has long been known as one of Korea’s top stylists and is known for acclaimed genre films such as A Tale of Two Sisters (2003), A Bittersweet Life (2005), The Good, The Bad, The Weird (2008) and The Age of Shadows (2016).

This isn’t the first time that Director KIM has helmed a promotional film designed to highlight a new technology’s capability. He previously directed the short The X (2013), starring GANG Dong-won, which introduced CGV’s three-wall projection Screen X technology. That film was presented as a gala screening at the Busan International Film Festival in 2013.
