RYU Seung-ryong Joins Hands with MISS BAEK Director LEE Ji-won

Star RYU Seung-ryong has signed on to appear in Bi-gwang (Korean title) the sophomore film of Miss Baek (2018) director LEE Ji-won.

The film is described as a noirish family drama about a couple that struggles to get back on its feet following an unexpected incident. RYU is on board to play Hwang Jong-gu, a former baseball pro.

Known for hit films such as Miracle in Cell No.7 (2013) and Extreme Job (2019), which became the second most successful film of all time last year during the Lunar New Year holiday season with over 16 million viewers, RYU Seung-ryong has also grown in international fan base of late through his starring role in the period horror series Kingdom, the first ever Netflix Original series from Korea. The show’s second season, once again featuring RYU, is set to premiere in March this year.

Director LEE kicked off her career in the directing department of the 2001 melodrama Bungee Jumping of Their Own with LEE Byung-hun and was later a script supervisor for The Scarlet Letter (2004) before doing a script polish on HAN Jae-rim’s The Show Must Go On (2007), the same year she made her short film Talk to Her.

LEE’s feature debut Miss Baek (2018) become a huge indie hit, recording over 700,000 viewers (USD 5.06 million) in 2018, and earned its star HAN Ji-min Best Actress prizes from most of Korea’s major awards bodies, including the Blue Dragon Film Awards, as well as a Best New Director Award for LEE at the Baeksang Arts Awards.

Bi-Gwang is scheduled to commence production in June of this year and will be produced by Ace Factory.
