ANOTHER CHILD and MAGGIE to Compete at NYAFF

The 18th New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF), which will run from June 28 to July 14 this summer, recently unveiled its lineup, which bears the tagline “Still Too Young to Die”. This year’s program will include nine titles from Korea, including a pair set to screen in the competition section.

This year’s Korean competitors at NYAFF will be Another Child, the acclaimed directorial debut of box office star KIM Yun-seok, as well as YI Ok-seop’s Maggie (2018), which debuted at the Busan International Film Festival last year.

As well as taking on a supporting role in his directorial debut, KIM Yun-seok also headlines the cast of the thriller Dark Figure of Crime (2018). KO Asung, known for The Host (2006) and Snowpiercer (2013), plays the real-life independence movement figure in the hit black and white period prison drama A Resistance. JUNG Jae-young, KIM Nam-gil and UHM Ji-won are just some of the stars that have assembled for the rural undead comedy THE ODD FAMILY : ZOMBIE ON SALE.

KIM Yuri’s Sub-zero Wind (2018), another new indie that debuted in Busan and JEONG Seung-o’s Move the Grave, which bowed at the Jeonju International Film Festival this year, will help to represent Korea’s indie sector in New York. Meanwhile KIM Tae-yong’s Kokdu: A Story of Guardian Angels (2018) will be screened as a live performance with a 20-member ensemble from the National Gugak Center at the Alive Tully Hall.

As previously reported, actor RYU Jun-yeol will attend New York on July 6 to pick up one of this year’s Screen Rising Star Awards. NYAFF is screening the young star’s most recent hit, the financial thriller Money.
