CJ Entertainment to Update Popular Romantic Drama

KWAK Jae-yong’s landmark romantic drama The Classic (2003) is set to be updated for the Thai film market. CJ Entertainment will produce the remake under its local banner CJ Major Entertainment. The project will be known as Classic Again, is to be helmed by first time filmmaker Thatchaphong SUPHASRI and will feature local actor Thitipoom TECHAAPAIKHUN.

Released two years after KWAK’s sensationally successful My Sassy Girl (2001), The Classic also proved a hit with viewers, earning close to USD 7 million. The film featured a star-making turn from SON Ye-jin, playing dual roles as a daughter and (in flashbacks scenes) as her mother, as both narratives detail the characters’ love stories.

CJ Entertainment continues to be busy with localized projects in Southeast Asia, which also include an Indonesian version of KANG Hyoung-chul’s 2011 hit Sunny. The update is called Bebas and will be directed by Riri RIZA, who previously made Gie, Indonesia’s submission to the 2006 Academy Awards. A co-production between RIZA’s Miles Films and CJ Entertainment, Bebas will be released in October this year.

Other Indonesia-based projects include Ody C. HARAHAP’s action comedy Hit & Run and Joko ANWAR’s horror-thriller Impetigore, his third film for CJ following A Copy of My Mind and Satan’s Slaves.
