Final Film in LEE Joon-ik’s Youth Trilogy

Having previously directed King And The Clown (2005), The Throne (2015) and DONGJU; The Portrait of A Poet (2016), LEE Joon-ik will return with his upcoming film Sunset in My Hometown. It will be the last film in LEE’s Youth Trilogy, which comprises DONGJU; The Portrait of A Poet and Anarchist from Colony (2017). While the former was about poet YOON Dong-ju and Korean independence fighter SONG Mong-gyu, the latter followed the story of PARK Yeol and Fumiko who went after anti-imperialism at the Japanese court. Set for a July release, Sunset in My Hometown stars PARK Jung-min, who played SONG Mong-kyu in DONGJU; The Portrait of A Poet, and KIM Go-eun of Coin Locker Girl (2015). It is being produced by Byeonsan Cultural Industry and distributed by Megabox Plus M.

The film is about nameless rapper Hak-soo (PARK Jung-min) who gets summoned to his hometown Byeonsan by his elementary schoolmate Sun-mi (KIM Go-eun). “Everyone has their youth”, director LEE said. “I think youth is that brightest of all moments, that moment made of scars and consolations that come with living in this world with other people. […] I had the desire to explore, show and awaken the things that are repressed. I tried to break the mold with Sunset in My Hometown.”
