THE VILLAINESS to Close NYAFF

Director JUNG Byung-gil will be traveling to New York this week to collect the Daniel E. Craft Award for Excellence in Action Cinema for his latest work The Villainess, which serves as the closing film of this year’s 16th edition of the New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF).

Starring KIM Ok-vin as a trained assassin who goes on a quest for revenge, The Villainess premiered as part of the Midnight Screenings at Cannes before going on release in Korea and continuing its global festival run, which will include stops at the Fantasia International Film Festival, where it has been invited as the Opening Film, and the 50th anniversary of the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia.

Director JUNG previously participated at NYAFF with his debut film Action Boys back in 2008. JUNG also helmed the 2012 hit Confession of Murder

The Villainess joins several other Korean films at NYAFF this year, including UM Tae-hwa’s VANISHING TIME: A BOY WHO RETURNED (2016), PARK Kwang-hyun’s Fabricated City, KIM Bong-han’s ORDINARY PERSON, CHOI Kook-hee’s SPLIT (2016), CHO Hyunhoon’s Jane, AHN Jeong-Min’s Fantasy of the Girls (2016), ZHANG Lu’s A Quiet Dream (2016), LEE Zoo-young’s A Single Rider, KIM Hwi and JUNG Sik’s The Tooth and the Nail and LEE Kyoung-mi’s The Truth Beneath (2016).

JUNG’s latest will close NYAFF this Sunday, July 16th.
