New Korean Noir Plans Late 2017 Release

Production began on February 27th for Crime City (translated title), a new crime noir featuring stars Don LEE (aka MA Dong-seok) and YOON Kye-sang. At the helm is filmmaker KANG Yoon-seong, who has been working to bring the project, his first narrative feature, to life for the last four years.

Don LEE, who featured in last year’s global smash TRAIN TO BUSAN, will play the protagonist in the story, who works to take down a gang in the downtrodden Garibong neighborhood in Seoul. YOON Kye-sang, last seen opposite YOUN Yuh-jung in E J-yong’s The Bacchus Lady, takes on a rare villain role as the head of a Korean-Chinese gang.

The stars are reuniting on screen after both featuring in YOON Jong-bin’s second film Beastie Boys in 2008. JO Jae-yun of Inside Men (2015) and CHOI Kwi-hwa of The King will perform alongside them.

Director KANG previously made the documentary Last Concert in 2007 and has worked in various roles in commercial films such as Baby Alone (2002) and Please Teach Me English (2003).

Hong film, which recently produced Casa Amor; Exclusive for Ladies (2015) and 2014’s Murderer (also featuring LEE), is producing along with BA Entertainment. Megabox Plus M will distribute the picture in the second half of the year.
