THE SHAMELESS Triumphs at the 24th Buil Film Awards

On the second night of the 20th Busan International Film Festival, stars arrived at the Grand Hotel in Haeundae for the 24th Buil Film Awards. The oldest awards show in Korea, the Buil Film Awards kicked off in 1958 and were discontinued in 1973 before being reinstated in 2008.
 
Coming up tops during the evening was OH Seung-uk’s The Shameless, which took home the Best Picture and Best Music awards as well as the Best Actress prize for JEON Do-yeon. Best Director was won by KWAK Kyung-taek for The Classified File and Best Actor went to LEE Jung-jae for his role in CHOI Dong-hoon’s Assassination. CHOI’s period action film also earned the Best Art Direction award.
 
In other acting awards, LEE Gyoung-young picked up the Best Supporting Actor award for legal thriller The Unfair and MOON Jeong-hee was recognized as Best Supporting Actress for her part in BOO Ji-young’s social drama Cart. Best New Actress went to LEE Yoo-young, for her debut role in Late Spring, while BYUN Yo-han earned the Best New Actor accolade for the indie thriller Socialphobia, a feature from the Korean Academy of Film Arts (KAFA) which debuted at BIFF last year. Socialphobia also picked up Best New Director for HONG Seok-jae.
 
The Unfair won a second award for Best Screenplay, earned by KIM Sung-je and SON A-ram, while Haemoo was the winner in the Best Cinematography category. Outside of the main awards, IM Heung-soon’s Factory Complex was given the YU Hyun-mok Film Arts Award and blockbuster melodrama Ode to My Father took home the Buil Readers’ Jury Award.
