Docs Port Incheon 2015 Unveils 39 Projects

Korea’s only specialized documentary project market, Docs Port Incheon announced the 39 finals for all sections.
 
50 projects applied for "K-Pitch," the section for Korean documentary projects aiming at theatrical release and TV broadcasting. Among them 10 projects were selected after two evaluation processes. PARK Hyuck-jee, the director of With or Without You (winner of 2015 Docs Port Incheon-Sansu Ventures Documentary Fund) brought his new project entitled Time after Time, IM Heung-soon, who won the Silver Lion at the 56th Venice Biennale in 2015 with Factory Complex, will present his next project, Dear Mother. A new Korean-Japanese project Counters comes to Docs Port Incheon by director E il-ha and producer CHO Eun sung who have been working for a long time on filming Korean-Japanese in A Crybaby Boxing Club. Director LEE Kang-hyun has attracted attentions from critics for his unique and experimental documentaries including The Description of Bankruptcy and The Color of Pain and will show his new project Mappers. In addition, new filmmakers’ ebullient projects will also be introduced: Family on the Bubble by director MA Min-ji; Mr. Kim, the first feature documentary project by KANG Sang-woo (Clean Me); and Ultra Gentleman by KARL Jaemin.
 
For "A-Pitch," the section for Korean and Asian projects targeting at overseas markets, total 98 projects from 23 countries applied, far more than the number of 78 projects last year. The 12 final projects that were selected for "A-Pitch" are from Japan, China, India, Cambodia and the Philippines and boast diverse subject materials such as politics, social issues and arts.
 
Pre-release platform "Rough Cut Sales" picked up 8 final projects. Red Maria 2 by Kyung-soon, Mrs B (then title: Leaving Homeland) by Jero Yun, and Ashes to Ashes by SHIN Sang-hoon are outstanding. Besides, the opening film of the Jecheon International Music & Film Festival, Try to Remember by KIM Dae-hyun will be introduced in "Rough Cut Sales" and the other seven documentaries dealing with various subject materials and themes including music, fine art and sports will be also shown. "Rough Cut Sales" offers them chances to meet potential investors, distributors and broadcasting professionals.
 
"Global Pitch," the new program aimed at international co-productions, picked up nine projects out of the 42 submitted. The winner of VPRO IDFA Award from International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam, YI Seung-jun will introduce his new film, Lunar Maria. Global Pitch includes highly anticipated films of Korean broadcasters and independent producers.
 
The Korean projects out of these 39 finals will be developed again through ‘Docs Lab’ composed of intensive lectures and mentoring sessions by domestic and international experts. And the international projects will also display their upgraded projects at the pitching after being trained by experts.
 
Docs Port Incheon runs from October 30 to November 2.
