Showcasing Environmental Films from Around the World

Last week, the Korea Green Foundation held a press conference in Seoul, revealing the details of the upcoming 11th edition of the Green Film Festival in Seoul. Aiming to demonstrate the accessibility of environmental films, the theme of this year’s festivities is ‘familiarity.’

Opening the festival will be the American indie hit The Kings of Summer. Among the movies in competition this year will be Kelvin Kyung Kun PARK’s documentary A Dream of Iron, which received the NETPAC Award when it debuted at the Berlin International Film Festival earlier this year.

Rather than project a dry image with too many serious environmental works, this year’s GFFIS is looking to project more dynamic works. GFFIS head programmer KIM Young-woo mentioned that “Eight years have passed since we first encountered ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ … but as time has passed, some people find the Al Gore-kind of message a little didactic. Through the 11th Green Film Festival, we hope to reach as many people as possible by featuring both light and serious stories.”

Spread out across three theaters in the Gwanghwamun area in Central Seoul, the 11th Green Film Festival in Seoul will showcase its 110 film lineup from May 8th to the 15th. This year’s appointed goodwill ambassadors are actress KIM So-eun and actor KANG Ha-neul.
