Korean Fashion Doc to Screen in Amsterdam

The world’s premiere documentary showcase, the International Documentary Festival Amsterdam, has invited the Korean non-fiction film Nora Noh. The film will compete in the IDFA’s Competition for First Appearance.

Nora NOH is the name of a clothes designer who has dominated the fashion scene for years. She held the country’s fist catwalk show and mass-produced its first fashionable range of ready-to-wear garments. In this documentary, NOH teams up with the young stylist SUH Eun-young to put on a show. The film, directed by KIM Sung-hee, had its world premiere at the International Women’s Film Festival in Seoul during the spring and is still awaiting theatrical release in the country.

The last time a Korean film made a splash at IDFA was two years ago when YI Seung-jun’s Planet of Snail sailed away with the top VPRO IDFA Award, worth EUR 12,500. Following its premiere at Jeonju that same year, YI’s film went on a healthy circuit run. As well as its award win, the film secured UK distribution (through Dogwoof) during the 2011 IDFA.

Taking place in the Dutch capital, the 2013 edition of the International Documentary Festival Amsterdam will run from November 20th to December 1st.
