At the European Film Market (EFM) in Berlin, leading Korean entertainment company CJ Entertainment (part of CJ E&M) has announced KANG Je-kyu’s World War II film <My Way> has been sold to several territories since the Cannes Film Market last year.
So far, <My Way> has been sold to Universal Pictures International Entertainment for the UK, Australia and New Zealand; to Splendid for Germany and the Benelux, Wild Side for French-speaking Europe, Scorpio East for Singapore, STG for Thailand, Knotty Ideas for Malaysia and Well Go USA for North America.
The film is based on a true story about a Korean found in German uniform on the beaches of Normandy when the Allied Forces invaded. JANG Dong-gun (<Taegukgi>) stars as a young Korean marathon runner who is drafted into the Japanese army during the occupation of Korea. On the battlefields of Mongolia, he re-encounters his longtime rival, played by ODAGIRI Joe (<Air Doll>) and their long and bizarre journey across continents ensues.
The film is screening in the currently on-going Berlin International Film Festival’s Panorama Special program and in the EFM. Director Kang Je-kyu (<Taegukgi>, <Shiri>)and stars Jang Dong-gun and Odagiri Joeattended the Berlinale premiere on Feb. 10 to introduce the film.
The market premiere of the film’s full version happened on Feb. 11 and there is another EFM screening today, Feb. 14. Three more festival screenings are set for Feb. 17, 18 and 19.
CJ Entertainment has stated that the rest of the territories not mentioned above are still available. CJ’s international team is out in force at the EFM, headed by Senior Vice President Kini KIM.
