Highest Since January 2024”

□ Total revenue in August KRW 135.6 billion · admissions 13.45 million, highest monthly figures since January 2024

In August 2025, total box office revenue was KRW 135.6 billion, and total admissions were 13.45 million. Compared to the same month last year, revenue increased by 16.2% (KRW 19.0 billion) and admissions increased by 14.2% (1.67 million). Compared to the previous month, revenue increased by 18.1% (KRW 20.8 billion) and admissions increased by 14.6% (1.72 million). Zombie Daughter, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, and F1: The Movie performed strongly, recording the highest monthly revenue and admissions since January 2024.

Although the number of releases in August this year decreased compared to the same month last year, the government’s distribution of 1.43 million discount tickets during the month led to an increase in overall admissions compared to the same month last year.

□ Korean films in August recorded a large month-on-month increase in revenue and admissions

In August, Korean films recorded revenue of KRW 60.5 billion and admissions of 6.3 million. With the success of Zombie Daughter, released on July 30, revenue of Korean films increased by 46.0% (KRW 19.1 billion) and admissions increased by 44.0% (1.93 million) compared to the previous month. However, compared to the same month last year, when Pilot and Hachuping of Love were successful, revenue decreased by 15.0% (KRW 10.7 billion) and admissions decreased by 12.7% (920,000).

□ Foreign films in August recorded the highest revenue of the year

Thanks to the success of Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle and F1: The Movie, foreign films in August recorded the highest revenue and admissions of the year. In August, foreign films recorded revenue of KRW 75.2 billion, an increase of 65.0% (KRW 29.6 billion) compared to the same month last year, and admissions of 7.15 million, an increase of 56.8% (2.59 million) compared to the same month last year.

Zombie Daughter ranked No.1 overall in August, first Korean film released this year to surpass 5 million admissions

The webtoon-based Zombie Daughter recorded revenue of KRW 44.8 billion (4.65 million admissions), ranking No.1 overall in August. Released during the summer peak season, Zombie Daughter succeeded at the box office with support from family audiences, and by the end of August it had recorded cumulative revenue of KRW 50.7 billion and cumulative admissions of 5.35 million. It became the first Korean film released this year to surpass KRW 50.0 billion in revenue and 5 million admissions.

□ Japanese animation Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle ranked No.2 overall in August

Japanese animation Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle recorded revenue of KRW 34.1 billion (3.15 million admissions) within 10 days of release, ranking No.2 overall in August. Released on August 22, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle is a theatrical version of the TV animation Demon Slayer, attracting not only anime fans but also general audiences. It surpassed the performance of the previous film Demon Slayer: Mugen Train (revenue KRW 21.4 billion, admissions 2.22 million).

F1: The Movie cumulative revenue KRW 51.1 billion, ranked No.1 in 2025 box office revenue

 

Released on June 25, F1: The Movie continued to perform well in August, recording revenue of KRW 22.2 billion (2.05 million admissions), ranking No.3 overall in August. Its cumulative revenue reached KRW 51.1 billion (cumulative admissions 4.76 million), making it the top-grossing film of 2025. With premium screenings (4D, IMAX, ScreenX, Dolby Cinema) accounting for 30% of total revenue, F1: The Movie recorded higher revenue than Zombie Daughter (cumulative revenue KRW 50.7 billion, cumulative admissions 5.35 million).
